Aunt K.T. Visits!

Last month, my most beautiful, wonderful, spunky, adventurous, Aunt K.T. made a 41 hour trek door to door to come visit me!!!
We celebrated her birthday in Chiang Mai where we could eat delicious food and chocolate mousse cake (which you definitely cannot find in Chiang Saen). This picture is at the beautiful Doi Suthep temple which overlooks Chiang Mai. I also took her on a short hike to see a giant and very beautiful strangler fig on one of the trails that we used to collect seeds during my internship.

Aunt K.T. was also so veryyyy lucky to be included in the rotary july birthdays celebration. She was serenaded with the Thai and English birthday songs and got to sample the rubbery fruit-shaped birthday jellies. mmmm.

Also in honor of her birthday, Thailand held the annual candle festival (july 15th). My students worked for two weeks straight to carve the giant candle and the thousands of little candles to decorate the school float for the town parade. Although Aunt K.T. and I may or may not have napped through the parade, we made it in time to enjoy the float and take pictures with my students.

I also took Aunt K.T. on a whirlwind tour of Chiang Rai including Kuhn Kohn waterfall, the White Temple, the Black house, and Doi din Dang pottery studio. Aunt K.T. got me a gorgeous mug and two bowls as "belated birthday presents which i now use every day!!!

Fulbright sent 16 American teachers on a learning exchange summer program to my school for a roundtable discussion on education. Naturally, my school dressed me up for the occasion. This is one of my star 7th graders!

That would be my gecko...with a GIANT SCORPION in it's mouth. These epic battles go on for 45 minutes to an hour and involve a ton of noisy tapping/thrashing on the side of my house. Not so fun to hear in the middle of the night...eeek!

Alright, that's all for now. Sorry I've fallen down on the blogging a bit. See my list of duties as an explanation for why :) Hope you are all well!
